I have noticed a trend in the popular music industry. There has been a tendency in the past few years for the music industry to promote groups of same sex singers, usually five, and make unprecedented amounts of money on them. Recently there has been Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys, 'NSync, Five, 98 degrees, Boy Zone, Boys II Men, and less recently New Kids on the Block. These groups have little musical talent and as a result damper the success of those with much musical talent. The cause of this phenomenon is capital and the effect is a dampening of the success of these with far more talent.
Backstreet Boys is a group of very pretty young men. The started a singing group about six years ago with little vocal training and had a record contract within six months. They started out as an a capella group and moved on to dance music when they got their record contract. The write none of their own music. The music is written by composers highered by their producers. They have professional choreographers choreograph their stage performances. Their singing technique is poor, often producing a screechy sound. Their singing goes through much processing in order to force their voices to blend, and make them sound as if they are far better singers than their actually are.
